Subnautica 2 Early Access Roadmap: EA Status and Future Updates

Subnautica 2 launched into Early Access on May 14, 2026 on planet Proteus. Unknown Worlds announced three update tiers: Hotfixes (rapid bug fixes), Improvement Updates (system tuning and QoL), and Major Content Drops (new biomes, creatures, resources, tools, vehicles, and story). Hotfix 3 shipped on June 1, 2026. Dev Vlog 8 (June 4, 2026) confirmed the shift from a hotfix cadence toward EA 1.1, the first Improvement Update. Currently playable: Coral Gardens and Karakorum regions with approximately 43 creature types, 8 tools, 10+ Biomods, and the Tadpole submersible. The World Tree region has been teased but remains inaccessible. Full launch is expected in the 2028-2029 window.

Official Summary

Unknown Worlds confirmed three update categories on May 15, 2026: (1) Hotfixes — rapid bug fixes and stability improvements deployed as needed. (2) Improvement Updates — larger scheduled patches with system tuning, smaller features, and quality-of-life changes. EA 1.1 is the first Improvement Update and is expected to introduce new biomes, creatures, resources, and Biomod improvements. (3) Major Content Drops — world expansion including new biomes, creatures, resources, tools, vehicles, and story content. Full launch is projected 2-3 years after Early Access (2028-2029).

Player Impact

Hotfixes (May-June 2026) have focused on stability — no major gameplay changes affecting current guide routes. The shift to EA 1.1 means fewer but larger updates going forward. EA 1.1 may introduce: new biomes that shift resource availability, additional creature types that alter safe route planning, Biomod improvements that change upgrade priority, and potential crafting recipe adjustments. Guide routes for resource locations, vehicle fragment positions, and beginner paths should be rechecked after EA 1.1. The World Tree region remains a key unknown — once accessible, it will open new exploration and resource routes.
