Subnautica 2 Rebreather Guide: Crafting and Depth Diving

The Rebreather reduces oxygen consumption at depth, making it essential for exploring deeper biomes. Unlock it by scanning fragments near wrecks in the Kelp Forest. Craft with 1 fiber mesh + 1 silicone rubber. Combine with the Standard Air Tank for maximum dive time.

Guide Steps

Step 1: Scan Rebreather fragments

Rebreather fragments are found near wrecks in the Kelp Forest (20–40m depth). You typically need to scan 2 fragments to unlock the blueprint. They're small, cylindrical devices often partially buried near wreckage. Use the scanner to check every object near wrecks.

Step 2: Gather materials

Fiber mesh: 2 creepvine samples (harvested from creepvine stalks in Kelp Forest with a knife). Silicone rubber: 1 creepvine seed cluster (found on tall creepvine in Kelp Forest). Both components come from the same biome, so one trip can get everything you need.

Step 3: Craft the rebreather

Fabricator → Equipment → Rebreather. Materials: 1 fiber mesh + 1 silicone rubber. The rebreather is equipped in a head slot and works passively — no power or activation needed. Once equipped, your oxygen depletes slower at depths below 30m.

Step 4: How it works

Without a rebreather, oxygen consumption increases with depth. At 100m, you might consume oxygen 2–3× faster than at the surface. The rebreather normalizes oxygen consumption across all depths, effectively doubling or tripling your dive time in deep biomes.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I find Rebreather fragments?

Near wrecks in the Kelp Forest at 20–40m depth. Scan 2 fragments to unlock.

Is the Rebreather worth crafting?

Absolutely — it's one of the most impactful early upgrades. The oxygen savings at depth are dramatic and open up entire biomes for exploration.

Does the Rebreather need power?

No. It's passive equipment — equip it and it works automatically at all depths.
