Subnautica 2 Sonic Resonator Guide: Blueprint and Usage

The Sonic Resonator is a defensive tool that emits sound waves to deter or distract hostile creatures. Unlock it by scanning fragments in wreckage sites. Once crafted, use it to create safe passage through predator territory or to buy time while collecting resources in dangerous biomes.

Guide Steps

Step 1: Unlock the blueprint

Scan Sonic Resonator fragments found near medium-to-large wrecks in the Kelp Forest and Grassy Plateau (30–60m depth). You need 2–3 fragments. Fragments look like small dish-shaped devices. Check wreck interiors and surrounding debris fields.

Step 2: Gather crafting materials

The Sonic Resonator requires: 1 computer chip (1 gold + 2 table coral + 1 copper), 1 battery (1 copper + 1 acid mushroom), 1 titanium. The computer chip is the most complex component — you'll need gold from sandstone outcrops and table coral from coral tubes.

Step 3: Craft the Sonic Resonator

Fabricator → Equipment → Sonic Resonator. Materials: 1 computer chip + 1 battery + 1 titanium. It's a handheld tool and uses battery power — each use drains a portion of the battery charge. Carry a spare battery when using it actively.

Step 4: How to use it

Equip the Sonic Resonator, aim at a creature, and activate. The sound wave will cause most medium-sized predators to flee or become distracted for several seconds. Use this window to swim past, collect resources, or reposition. It doesn't work on leviathan-class creatures.

Usage strategy

The Sonic Resonator is a tool of opportunity, not a weapon. Use it to create brief safe windows for resource collection in predator-heavy areas. It's particularly useful in the Kelp Forest (stalkers) and Grassy Plateau (sand sharks). Don't rely on it as your only defense — always have an escape route planned.
